CFL is committed to operating in a manner
designed to protect the environment, as well as the health and safety of its
employees and the general public. The company continuously targets overall
minimization of chemical air releases and water discharges.
In 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 CFL was recognized by Alberta’s EnviroVista program as an EnviroVista Leader. The program is a voluntary, facility-based effort to recognize and promote environmental leadership and stewardship by the province’s most progressive regulated operators. CFL is a board bember of the Palliser Airshed Society and the South East Alberta Watershed Alliance. PAS monitors air quality in the Medicine Hat / Redcliff region. SEAWA monitors water quality in the South Saskachewan River Watershed. Over the years, investments in technology and process control at CFL have produced important improvements, including a 16 percent reduction in greenhouse gas intensity since 1990, a 78 percent reduction in average daily ammonia discharge in effluent water since 1998, and a reduction in NOx in 2007. CFL, in association with the Canadian Fertilizer Institute, is working with provincial and federal governments to identify further potential reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. |
